County Executive McCoy Celebrates Spring with Rail Trail Half Marathon & Global Youth Service Day

Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy celebrates spring this Saturday with two community events which are expected to draw thousands of people.

The Helderberg to Hudson Half Marathon kicks off at 8am and there are already 3,000 people registered. Participants are from nearly every county in New York, as well as from 18 other states, Canada, and Latvia. This event features a point-to-point course using the Albany County Rail Trail and finishes at Jennings Landing, starting at the Stephen P. Wallace Park, 148 Swift Rd, Slingerlands 12159.

Also on Saturday from 9am- 1pm, Albany County and the town of Colonie are hosting Global Youth Service Day at The Crossings at 580 Albany Shaker Road in Colonie. Global Youth Service Day is the largest service event in the world which celebrates and mobilizes the millions of young people who improve their communities through service. Area youth volunteers will be collecting necessities for the Veterans Miracle Center. Items needed include toothbrushes, liquid hand soap, cough drops, toilet paper and other personal hygiene products. County Executive McCoy encourages anyone who can to stop by and donate these much needed toiletries.
