Fox Killed, Tests Positive for Rabies

March 1—Lab results have confirmed a fox shot and killed today has tested positive for rabies. Albany County's Department of Health and Cohoes Police had issued an alert this morning after a woman was bitten by a grey fox in the Jefferson Avenue/Lansing Park area of Cohoes.

"Quick action was taken by Cohoes Police, Animal Control and the Albany County Health Department to make sure the public was protected," said Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy. "It is important to remember whenever any animal, particularly a wild or stray animal is acting strangely, to stay away and contact animal control."

The woman who was bitten did begin rabies post-exposure vaccinations.
