County Route 156 Fuller Road/Washington Avenue Intersection Reconstruction ProjectThis project will reconstruct the intersection of Fuller Road and Washington Avenue in the City of Albany. The project objectives are to decrease traffic congestion at the existing signalized intersection, to improve both pedestrian and bicycle access through the intersection, and to address the deteriorating pavement condition. This project is separate from, but is being coordinated with, Albany County's Fuller Road Reconstruction Project. Albany County is progressing the project with planning and engineering. The project is being financed with federal, state, and County funds. The project is currently being designed. Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in early Spring 2012 and be completed by the summer of 2013. The estimated total cost of the project is approximately $22,000,000. This project is being coordinated with 2 other ongoing projects in the same area. The first project is another County highway project north of this intersection on Fuller Road between I-90 Exit 2 and Central Avenue. This project is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2011. The second project is a College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) building project on the northwest corner of this intersection. The Public Information MeetingAlbany County held a public information meeting on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at the NanoFab South Auditorium/Rotunda at the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering's (CNSE) Albany NanoTech Complex located at 255 Fuller Road in Albany. County staff and designers made a presentation, answered questions and received comments during this meeting. The meeting presentation, brochure, comments and responses, and project alternatives are available below. All documents are in PDF* format. [Approximate files sizes are in brackets following each document link.]
The Draft Design ReportOn October 22, 2010 Albany County submitted the following Draft Design Report to the New York State Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration for their review and approval. All documents are in PDF* format. [Approximate files sizes are in brackets following each document link.]
For transportation projects in the federal-aid process, the Draft Design Report is produced at the end of preliminary engineering and before beginning detailed project design. In a Draft Design Report all the feasible project alternatives and all their environmental impacts are reviewed and analyzed, and a preferred alternative is recommended. In this project Draft Design Report the grade-separated, 2 lane roundabout alternative is recommended as the preferred alternative. This alternative was the alternative favored by most attendees at the July 22, 2010 Public Information Meeting. If this Design Draft Report is approved, this alternative will be progressed into detailed design.
