Honor A Veteran
Samuel J. Yanni, US Navy
Albany County Executive Mike Breslin, Congressman Paul Tonko and the Honor-A-Veteran Committee commemorated Samuel J. Yanni at a ceremony held on May 4, 2009.
Samuel J. Yanni was born on February 25, 1931 in Albany. He served in the United States Navy as a Hospital Corpsman Third Class in the Third Naval District during the Korean War.
After his military service, Samuel worked for Niagara Mohawk for 43 years. He remained active in veterans' affairs as a member and past commander of the North Albany American Legion Post #1610 and a member of the Colonie Lodge of Elks #2192. He was also a communicant of the Church of the Sacred Heart and a member of the North Albany Neighborhood Association.
The Honor-A-Veteran ceremony is held the first Monday of each month to honor a deceased veteran of the community.
