Honor A Veteran

Albany County Honors Korean War Veteran John Liburdi

Albany County Executive Mike Breslin and the Honor-A-Veteran Committee commemorated Korean War veteran John Liburdi in a ceremony held on Monday, April 4, 2005, in the Cahill Room of the Albany County Office Building.

Liburdi, a lifelong resident of Latham, attended Watervliet High School until 1947 when he joined the United States Army. He served in the 24th Infantry Division during the Korean War and earned the Combat Infantry Badge and received two Purple Hearts. Liburdi left high school to volunteer for the Army and was awarded his high school diploma in 2002 in appreciation for his service to our country.

Liburdi was an employee with the North Colonie School District for 33 years, starting as a bus driver and later as a custodian at Loudonville, Blue Creek and Boght Hills Elementary Schools. He retired in 1987 as head custodian at Shaker High School. He also was past president of the CSEA Union for the School District. After his retirement, he operated John of Cohoes Antiques and Collectibles for several years.

Liburdi was a member of the Colonie Elks Club for 25 years and a long time member and past commander of Latham Memorial Post #7411, VFW as well as an active member of several Masonic organizations, serving as past master of Evening Star Masonic Lodge #75 F&AM, Latham.
