Honor A Veteran

Albany County Honors World War II Veteran George M. DeLong

Albany County Executive Mike Breslin and the Honor-A-Veteran Committee commemorated World War II veteran George M. DeLong in a ceremony held on Monday, March 7, 2005, at the Legnard Curtain American Legion Post in Green Island.

DeLong, a lifelong resident of Green Island, joined the United States Army in 1942 and served in Europe during World War II as a medical technician. He was employed by the Golub Corporation in Schenectady for 45 years, retiring in 1982 as director of transportation and warehousing.

He was an active member of the Legnard Curtin American Legion Post, the Catholic War Veterans, the Vagabond Club and the Troy Elks Club as well as a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Green Island.
