Honor A Veteran

Albany County Honors World War II Veteran Vincent Crisafulli

Albany County Executive Mike Breslin and the Honor-A-Veteran Committee commemorated World War II veteran Vincent “Jim” Crisafulli in A ceremony held Monday, June 7, 2004, at the Blanchard American Legion Post in Delmar.

Crisafulli was born in Rensselaer and was educated in Albany City schools. He joined the United States Army in 1943 and served during World War II with the 749th Tank Battalion in England, France and Germany. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

After the war, he opened Crisafulli Brothers Italian Grocers in Albany, which under his leadership became United Food Service, the area’s largest independent food service distributor. Crisafulli, a strong supporter of the culinary arts in the Capital District, was a founding member of the New York State Food Service Distributors Association and a member of the New York State Restaurant Association. He was a lifelong member of the 749th Tank Battalion Association and the Albany Sons of Italy. He also sat on many boards for community organizations and was a benefactor to many charitable causes, including St. Peter’s Hospital and the College of St. Rose.
