Honor A Veteran

Albany County Honors World War II Veteran Kenneth A. Dunbar

Albany County and the Honor-A-Veteran Committee  commemorated World War II veteran Kenneth A. Dunbar. A ceremony was  held on Monday, February 3, 2003, in the Cahill Room of the Albany County Office Building recognizing an outstanding African American veteran as part of Albany County’s celebration of African American History Month.

Dunbar was a native of Brooklyn, NY and attended Franklin K. Lane High School. In 1943, he enlisted in the United States Army and served in Japan, the South Pacific and Philippines in a supply company during World War II.

Dunbar worked for the New York City Transit Authority as a bus driver and also managed a taxi business. After retiring, Dunbar was active in the Order of St. Matthew and was the “Right Hand Man” of the Kituwah Cherokee Nation band and the lead man with the Anuki Cherokee band.

Before moving to Albany, Dunbar lived in Vermont and was an honored grandfather and elder of the Sunray Meditation Society. He was a member of the 369th Army Division.
