Honor A Veteran

Albany County Honors World War II Veteran Alfred J. Gabriel

Albany County Executive Mike Breslin, Congressman Michael McNulty and the Honor-A-Veteran Committee commemorated World War II veteran Alfred J. Gabriel at a ceremony on November 5, 2007, in Albany.

Gabriel was born on February 5, 1924 and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943. Gabriel fought in the Battle of Normandy, Battle of the Bulge, Remagen Bridge Head, Rhine Crossing and St. Lou Breakthrough in Paris during World War II.

After the war, Gabriel returned home and worked for the Pepsi Cola Company until his retirement in 1984. Gabriel remained active in the community and helped organize the Town of Colonie Fire Police.

The Honor-A-Veteran ceremony is held every first Monday of the month to honor a deceased veteran of the community.
