Honor A VeteranAlbany County Honors World War II Veteran Rocco L. RussoAlbany County Executive Mike Breslin, Congressman Michael McNulty and the Honor-A-Veteran Committee commemorated World War II veteran Rocco L. Russo at a ceremony on August 6, 2007, in Albany. Russo was born on December 29, 1915 and was a lifetime resident of Albany. He served in the United States Army from 1942 until 1946 during World War II. Russo saw conflict in Normandy, France and fought during the Battle of the Bulge. For his service, Russo received the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Service Medal and World War II Victory Medal. Russo later went on to become the owner and proprietor of Rocky's Bar on Madison Avenue and South Pearl Street in Albany. He was also a member of the Pat Aiezza Post 1181 Catholic War Veterans Post. The Honor-A-Veteran ceremony is held every first Monday of the month to honor a deceased veteran of the community.
