Albany County Honors Iraq Veteran Sergeant David M. Fisher

Albany County Executive Mike Breslin, Congressman Michael McNulty and the Honor-A-Veteran Committee commemorated Sergeant David M. Fisher at a ceremony on Monday, June 4, 2007, in Albany.

Sergeant David M. Fisher was born on June 12, 1983 and was raised in Watervliet. He attended St. Brigid's School, Watervliet Elementary School and is a 2001 graduate of Watervliet High School. He excelled on both the football and basketball teams and is remembered as a talented artist.

Fisher enlisted in the Army National Guard in November 2001 and was based with the 42nd Infantry Rainbow Division of the New York National Guard. He was deployed on May 15, 2004 and trained in Texas and California before going overseas to serve in Iraq with the Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 101st Calvary Regiment. Fisher was fatally injured on December 4, 2004 and was posthumously promoted to Sergeant on December 5.

The Honor-A-Veteran ceremony is held every first Monday of the month to honor a deceased veteran of the community.
