Honor A Veteran

Albany County Honors World War II Veteran Edward J. Jones, Jr.

Albany County Executive Mike Breslin, Congressman Michael McNulty and the Honor-A-Veteran Committee commemorated World War II veteran Edward J. Jones, Jr., of Albany, at a ceremony on April 2, 2007, in Albany.

Edward J. Jones, Jr. was born in Troy on May 10, 1926, and graduated from Catholic High School in Troy. Edward joined the United States Navy in 1944, and served in the South Pacific during World War II as a Seaman first class aboard the USS Chicago. He served until May 19, 1946.

After his service, Edward worked for the New York Central Railroad from 1948 to 1956 and was then employed with the Squires Company until 1960. He then worked for the Capital City Container Corporation in Albany until his death in 1970. Edward was an active member of St. Clare's Roman Catholic Church in Colonie and a member of St. Clare's Bowling and Golf Leagues.

The Honor-A-Veteran ceremony is held every first Monday of the month to honor a deceased veteran of the community.
