Honor A VeteranAlbany County Honors World War II Veteran Richard J. BarrettAlbany County Executive Mike Breslin and the Honor-A-Veteran Committee commemorated World War II veteran Richard J. Barrett at a ceremony on Monday, August 1, 2005, in the Cahill Room of the County Office Building at 112 State St. in Albany. Barrett, born in Ireland on September 8, 1908, lived most of his life in Albany. He served in the United States Army from January 1942 to September 1945 and was stationed in Pine Camp, NY during World War II. He was employed as a butcher at the A&P Supermarket in Albany for many years. Barrett was devoted to his family and dedicated to his community, serving as treasurer of the Albany West End Little League and a member of the Blessed Sacrament of Holy Names Church.
