Digital Tax Maps for Large-Scale Uses

In addition to traditional paper copies of tax maps, the Albany County Real Property Tax Service Agency is pleased to be able to offer large-scale digital tax maps of municipalities within Albany County. This web page explains more about tax maps in general and about our digital tax map project. You will also find information about the digital data formats available, as well as pricing information and a downloadable order form for our digital maps.

Paper Tax Maps for Homeowners, Neighborhood Associations and Other Small-Scale Needs

Our digital tax maps supply data for entire municipalities and are not appropriate for individual property owners. You can stop by our Tax Map Office at 32 North Russell Road Albany (off Central Avenue, next to Westgate Plaza) to obtain printed tax maps suitable for the needs of most individual owners.

About Tax Maps

A tax map is a special purpose map, accurately drawn to scale showing all the real property parcels within a city, town or village. These maps are used to locate parcels and obtain other information required in assessment work. The size, shape and dimensions (or acreage) of a parcel may be found on a tax map. Tax maps are primarily used by local governments to maintain a current inventory of all parcels in a city, town or village.

Why Digital Tax Maps?

While our tax maps were developed for assessment purposes, digital mapping information has a wide variety of uses. The map data offered here, when combined with other Graphical Information System (GIS) data, could form the basic building blocks for displaying and using all types of location-based information in the County of Albany.

About the Digital Tax Map Conversion Project

The Albany County Tax Map Conversion Project began in February of 1999 and culminated in the summer of 2001 with final delivery of digital products. These digital data sets were produced by digitizing scanned images of the original Mylar tax map sheets. These images were registered to their true ground location, and drawn in survey feet.

Digital File Formats

Albany County maintains digital tax maps in two formats: AutoCAD© v2000 .DWG files, and ArcView© .SHP files.

Price List, License Agreement and Order Form for Digital Mapping Products

There are no charges for NYS GIS Data Sharing Cooperative members with account ID. For all others, a license agreement for the use of these files must be signed, and the below charges apply.
