Community Services Board

Community residents who have an interest in services for the mentally disabled are welcome to attend meetings of the Community Services Board and its three subcommittees on mental health, mental retardation and developmental disabilities, and alcoholism and substance abuse.

The Community Services Board is made up of 15 members appointed by the County Legislature. Board members are professionals in the field or have interest in services for the mentally ill and disabled. The board recommends and suggests to the Legislature and County Executive a program of community mental health services and facilities and adopts rules and regulations concerning the condition or operation of services and facilities in the community mental health program.

The subcommittee for mental health; mental retardation and developmental disabilities; and alcoholism and substance abuse are composed of persons who have an interest in the field of services, former or current users of mental health services, parents or relatives of those with mental disabilities and representatives of community agencies serving these particular populations. Each subcommittee advises the Community Services Board on all of its policy-making functions and annually evaluates the local services plan for the population it serves.

If you live in Albany County and receive or provide MRDD services, are a family member of a consumer of MRDD services and/or are interested in this service area, the MRDD Committee encourages you to attend one or more of the public MRDD meetings. It is the hope of the Committee to expand the planning process for MRDD services in a way that is inclusive and comfortable.
