Herbert W. Reilly, Jr., 33rd Legislative DistrictHerbert W. Reilly, Jr. is serving his third term in the Albany County Legislature as the representative of the 33rd District. The district is made up of the northeastern portion of the Town of New Scotland, including the entire Village of Voorheesville, and part of the Town of Bethlehem, including the Greenfield and Brookfield neighborhoods.

Herb is a Deputy Chair of the Legislature's Committee on Conservation and Improvement and a member of the Public Works and Social Services Committees.  He previously served on the Public Safety Committee and the Albany County Redistricting Commission. He also is the legislative representative on the Soil and Water Conservation District Board, Cornell Cooperative Extension and the Regional Fish and Wildlife Management Board.

Herb began his service in the County Legislature in January 2000. During his tenure he has sponsored resolutions to acquire the abandoned D&H rail line for a proposed Rail Trail Bikeway connecting Voorheesville and Albany and to create the Normanskill Nature Preserve at the site of the 2000 Bethlehem landslide. He was instrumental in initiating legislation to expand senior services, extend property tax reductions to qualified seniors and disabled and provide 6 am-6 pm emergency medical coverage for New Scotland and Elsmere through the Sheriff’s Department. He also supported the preservation of Indian Ladder Farms and measures to protect open space and water supplies and to stimulate the rural economy.

A 22-year veteran of New Scotland Town government, Herb served 12 years as Town Supervisor and 10 years as a Town Councilman. During his town service, he devoted his energy to improving town finances, programs for seniors and water and conservation projects.

Herb is a life-long Albany County resident. He was graduated from Holy Cross College with a bachelor's degree in biology and is a licensed insurance broker and funeral director. He owns Reilly & Son Funeral Home in Colonie and Voorheesville. He is a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Voorheesville, a 40-year member of the New Scotland Kiwanis Club, volunteer President of the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery Association and long-time chair of the Voorheesville Memorial Day races. He enjoys hiking, fishing and road racing, finishing 11 times in the Boston Marathon.

He and his wife of more than 45 years, Susan, are the parents of two daughters and seven sons and have 23 grandchildren.
