A Message from the Commissioner of Health on H1N1 Flu

Dear Albany County Resident,

The Albany County Department of Health continues to actively monitor seasonal and H1N1 flu activity in our community, which currently appears to be low compared to previous weeks.

We would like to remind residents that flu activity typically occurs from January through March, and the flu season runs until May. Though flu activity is currently low, it is unknown whether or not the 2009 H1N1 Influenza virus will reemerge this spring and/or summer. Therefore it is important for us all to continue to take steps that can prevent the spread of influenza in our community.

First and foremost, please make sure you and your family receive the H1N1 vaccine. Most health care providers have H1N1 vaccine. Also, individual appointments are currently available at the Albany County Department of Health by calling (518) 447-4505. Additional recommendations for preventing the spread of influenza and other communicable diseases are posted on our website.

This website will continue to be updated to provide you with new information as it becomes available. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions about H1N1 influenza or if you would like additional information.

Sincerely,

James B. Crucetti, MD, MPH
Commissioner of Health
