County Executive Daniel P. McCoy

Daniel McCoy is Albany County's fourth County Executive. 

Dan was born, raised and resides in the capital city of Albany where he has worked as a public servant his entire professional career. He was a firefighter and EMT for the Albany County Airport and the City of Albany and is currently a member of the New York National Guard where he has earned the rank of Sergeant 1st class. Dan was deployed to Iraq in 2005-2006 and most recently aided in the disaster relief following Superstorm Sandy, Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee. 

Dan was sworn into office on January 1, 2012 after serving twelve years as a County Legislator representing the 10th District which contains parts of Albany and Bethlehem. As a County Legislator, Dan was unanimously elected by peers to be the Chairman and served in this capacity for 2 years. He also served for three years as Chairman of the Albany County Democratic Committee, the youngest person to be voted to that position.

Since his election as County Executive, he has focused finding creative and innovative ways to improve the delivery of services while streamlining county government. Dan has spearheaded efforts to partner with Albany County's nineteen cities, towns and villages to implement shared services and to discuss ways that all municipalities in the county can save taxpayers money by decreasing spending, avoiding duplication of services and reducing waste in local government. 

Dan's priorities for his administration include fostering economic development opportunities through a Local Development Corporation; launching a small business incubator in the County Building to provide low cost space to fledgling companies looking to grow within Albany County; expanding the Domestic violence court within the City of Albany countywide; restructure and improve the healthcare delivery administered by the county and aggressively address the County's accumulated operating deficit.

Dan believes in the importance of volunteerism and community service. He is the founder and president of the Normanskill Neighborhood Association, a former member of the Board of Directors of Albany's National Little League and a member of the Knights of Pythias and the Hibernian Hall. Dan has chaired the Albany Parks and Recreation Committee and is a former member of the City of Albany Board of Zoning Appeals. Dan is also a founding member of the Albany Airport Firefighters Union I-65. 

Dan lives in Albany with his wife and three children.
