ARTICLE 17
DISTRICT ATTORNEY

   Section 1701.  Election. There shall be a District Attorney elected from the County at large. Her term shall be for four years, beginning with January 1st following her election. At the time of her election and throughout her term of office she shall be a qualified elector of the County and be duly admitted to the practice of law in the State of New York. She shall hold no other Public Office. Commencing January 1st, 1995, she shall not hold the position of
chair, vice chair, secretary or treasurer of a County Political Party Committee. She shall be a resident of the County continuously for at least one year preceding her election. The compensation of the District Attorney shall not be increased or decreased during her term of office.

   Section 1702. Powers and duties. The District Attorney shall have and exercise all powers and duties now or hereafter conferred or imposed upon her by any applicable law. The District Attorney shall have the power to appoint Assistant District Attorneys and employees as may be authorized by the County Legislature. Any Assistant District Attorneys appointed shall be duly qualified to practice law in the State of New York. The District Attorney shall perform such other and related duties as shall be required of or delegated to her by the County Legislature or County Executive.
