Stormwater Coalition of Albany County

Managing stormwater is a challenging responsibility, especially in urbanized areas where runoff from rain events and melting snow can flow quickly over paved areas into our lakes and streams. This issue becomes especially important when stormwater collects and transports pollutants such as road salt, pesticides, fertilizers, petroleum products, antifreeze, animal waste, and litter into our surface waters impacting drinking water quality, wildlife habitat, and recreational areas.

To meet these challenges and comply with State stormwater permit regulations, eleven municipalities, Albany County, and the State University of New York at Albany (Uptown Campus) participate in the Stormwater Coalition of Albany County. Municipal members include the City of Albany; Town of Bethlehem; City of Cohoes; Town of Colonie; Village of Colonie; Village of Green Island; Town of Guilderland; Village of Menands; Town of New Scotland; Village of Voorheesville; and City of Watervliet.

Each year, by June 1, Coalition members need to submit to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation an Annual Report which describes Stormwater Program activities of the previous year (March 10 to March 9). Included in that Report are comments from the public.
