McCoy Honors Albany County Fire Departments for Assisting Long Island Fire Department in Sandy Recovery

In the aftermath of superstorm Sandy numerous communities in New York were forced to begin a massive recovery effort. One such community was Long Beach, NY where local first responders faced numerous challenges in the weeks following the storm.

In early November the State Office of Fire Prevention and Control worked through the Albany County Fire Coordinator to enlist the assistance of fire departments in Albany County to provide coverage for the Long Beach Fire Department. Fourteen companies responded and sent crews and equipment to Long lsland for a three day period.

Albany County Executive Daniel McCoy, State Fire Administrator Bryant Stevens and Joseph Fahd of the Albany County Fire Coordinator's Office will recognize first responders from Albany County who volunteered to help other New Yorkers in a time of crisis.

The event will take place on Thursday, December 27 at 10:00am in the Exhibition Hall of the Times Union Center.
