The Honor-A-Veteran Committee commemorated the life of Bernard J. Nautel at a ceremony held July 2, 2012.
Bernard J. Nautel was born in Ogdensburg, New York in 1911. He enlisted in the US Army in 1942 and served as Staff Sergeant in the 1st Battalion 210th Armor Division until 1945. Bernard also served in the National Guard from 1945 until his death in 1962. Bernard was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Good conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 2 bronze service stars, WWII Victory Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge 1st Award, Honorable Service Lapel Button WWII and a Marksman Badge with Rifle Bar.
After his service, Bernard worked with his brother in the plumbing and heating industry. Bernard was a member of the American Legion in Albany.
The Honor-A-Veteran ceremony is held the first Monday of every month to honor a deceased veteran of the community.
