Frederick A. Robinson, Jr, US Army Air Corps

Albany County Executive Mike Breslin, Congressman Paul Tonko and the Honor-A-Veteran Committee commemorated veteran Frederick A. Robinson, Jr. at a ceremony on Monday, April 5, 2010 in the Harold L. Joyce County Office Building in Albany.

Robinson was born in 1922 in Albany. He served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant in the 66th Bomber Squadron of the 44th Bomber Group.

On November 13, 1943, Robinson and the 66th Squadron attacked the German port of Bremen, a major target with large manufacturing and storage facilities. Under heavy enemy fire and harsh weather conditions, the Squadron waged a heroic fight to disable the German forces. Robinson was killed in action while in flight. He, along with five other crew members, is listed on the Wall of the Missing at Margraten, Netherlands. For his ultimate sacrifice, Robinson was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart Medal and the Air Medal.

The Honor-A-Veteran ceremony is held every first Monday of the month to honor a deceased veteran of the community.
