Albany County Executive Mike Breslin, Congressman Michael McNulty and the Honor-A-Veteran Committee commemorated World War II veterans John and Paul Lyngard at a ceremony on April 7, 2007, in Albany.

Paul J. Lyngard was born on May 16, 1918 and enlisted in the military on January 13, 1938 and served until September 28, 1945. Paul served in the United States Army as a PFC in Company D 106th Infantry, and fought during the Eastern Mandates, Ryukyus and in the Western Pacific.

For his distinguished service, Paul received the American Defense Service Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal and a Silver Star. Paul worked with the United States Postal Service for 25 years and was a member of the United States Postal Workers Union.

John W. Lyngard was born on September 25, 1919 and enlisted in the army in July 1938 as a Private in the 106th Infantry. John served at Fort Hancock and at Fort Ethan Allen before being killed in action in Sicily in July of 1943.

For his service, John received the Distinguished Service Cross and the Purple Heart.

The Honor-A-Veteran ceremony is held the first Monday of each month to honor a deceased veteran of the community.
