How do I find adoption records?

Adoption records are permanently sealed pursuant to the Domestic Relations Law Section 114. The records may be disclosed only by a court order.

In Albany County, most adoption records are held by the Surrogate Court, (518) 285-8585.

New York State Health Department maintains an adoption information registry on its website www.health.state.ny.us/vital_records/.
