Albany County Honors World War II Veteran Joseph Putorti, Sr.

Albany County Executive Mike Breslin and the Honor-A-Veteran Committee commemorated World War II veteran Joseph A. Putorti, Sr. at a ceremony on Monday, December 5, 2005, in the Cahill Room of the County Office Building at 112 State St. in Albany.

Putorti was born in Whitehall, NY and was a longtime resident of the City of Albany.  He joined the United States Army in 1943, served in Europe during World War II and was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, the American Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. 

Putorti was retired from Crisafulli Brothers Plumbing & Heating Contractors, where he served as office manager for 26 years.  He also worked part-time for 25 years maintaining Bleecker Stadium for the City of Albany Parks Department.  He was a founding member of the West End Little League, where he served as vice-president for numerous years.  Putorti was a longtime member of the Albany Twilight League, where he served as an umpire and commissioner and in 1997 was inducted into the League's Hall of Fame.  He was also a member of the Scully American Legion Post, served as a Democratic committeeman for Albany County and supervised the Bleecker Stadium Teen Center for many years.

The Honor-A-Veteran ceremony is held every first Monday of the month to honor a deceased veteran of the community.
