Albany County Honors Korean War Veteran Anthony Sheldon

Albany County Executive Mike Breslin and the Honor-A-Veteran Committee commemorated Korean War veteran Anthony W. Sheldon at a ceremony on Monday, October 3, 2005, in the Cahill Room of the County Office Building at 112 State St. in Albany.

Sheldon was a lifelong resident of Albany and graduated from Philip Schuyler High School.  In 1953 he joined the United States Army and served in Germany during the Korean War.  He was a dedicated member of the Albany Police Department for 33 years.  Beginning as a patrolman in 1956, he quickly became a detective in the Night Squad and retired as a sergeant in 1989.  He was an active member of the Sheehy-Palmer VFW Post and in his spare time enjoyed repairing cars and motorcycles.  Sheldon was deeply committed to his family and loved spending time with his five children and many grandchildren.  He was married to his wife Marcia for 48 years.

The Honor-A-Veteran ceremony is held every first Monday of the month to honor a deceased veteran of the community.
