Albany County Executive Mike Breslin and the Honor-A-Veteran Committee commemorated Korean War veteran Donald J. Mero at a ceremony held on Tuesday, July 5, 2005, in the Cahill Room of the County Office Building at 112 State St. in Albany.
Mero was born in Willsboro, NY on August 18, 1930 and lived most of his life in Albany. He served in the United States Army from March 1951 to February 1953 during the Korean War.
After the war, Mero was a firefighter for the City of Albany Fire Department for more than 26 years, retiring in 1984. He was devoted to his family and community, always putting the needs of others before his own and helping neighbors in need.
