James J. Barba has been President and Chief Executive Officer of Albany Medical Center since June 2006. In these capacities, Mr. Barba oversees The Medical Education, Biomedical Research and Patient Care Activities Of Northeastern New York's Only Academic Health Sciences Center. Mr. Barba served as President and Chief Executive Officer of The Medical Center since 1995. He served as Senior Counsel to the Albany law firm of Hiscock & Barclay. Mr. Barba has been Chairman of the Medical Center's Board of Directors since 1994. Since 1979, he has been Trustee of The Albany Medical College and also serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Trudeau Institute, a biomedical cancer research center. Mr. Barba serves as Trustee of WMHT Educational Telecommunications. he served as a Director at Albany Colonie Regional Chamber of Commerce. In 1993, Mr. Barba was appointed by then Gov. Mario Cuomo to chair the state's Special Advisory Commission to Restore Empire Blue Cross/Blue Shield, the nation's largest not-for-profit health care insurer. Mr. Barba serves as Member of the New York State Bar Association and the Albany County Bar Association and holds a number of other civic and private appointments. Mr. Barba is a graduate of Siena College and the University of Notre Dame Law School.
