Statement From County Executive Daniel P. McCoy on Today’s Ruling from the Court of Appeals

July 01, 2014

While I am disappointed that the New York Court of Appeals struck down the Albany County Local Law C, the fact remains that the law is needed to protect children from cyber bullying. In its decision the court suggested that while the intent of the law is laudable, the law itself needed some clarification. I will work with the County Legislature to craft new legislation that addresses this decision and preserves our ability to do what we can to reduce cyberbullying of children. I also want to note that the process has brought significant public attention to the growing problem of cyber bullying and our efforts to reduce cyberbullying in Albany County. I believe that we are on the right track and that we can work together to craft a law that both protects free speech and keep kids safe.Type your content here...
