Tuesday, August 22, 2017 | 10:00am-12Noon

Join County Executive Daniel P. McCoy on Tuesday, August 22 from 10am-12pm for the next “Healing Moments,” a community conversation on issues involving refugees, immigration and diversity, to rebuild trust and heal divisions. From “build the wall” to the travel ban, we are seeing large numbers of people impacted because of their immigration status, religion or the language they speak. The goal of these discussions is to break down the barriers that separate us, to heal our communities, to be more inclusive and promote diversity.

The County Executive and the Albany County Interfaith Coalition are hosting the forum at the Islamic Center of the Capital District, 21 Lansing Road N, Schenectady, 12304.

The conversation will be moderated by the Executive Director of the Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New York, Lillian Moy. The panel will include Rifat Filkins, Executive Director of RISSE, Rosa Luna, a college student representing Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival Program, David W. Meyers, Immigration Attorney at Meyers & Meyers, LLP, Lt. Robert Donnelly of the Colonie Police Department, Taraf Alshammari, a UAlbany PhD. Student and Kuwaiti citizen, Jill Peckenpaugh Director of Albany, US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants, James Milstein, Director, Regional Immigration Assistance Center, and Dr. Liaquat Husain representing the Islamic Center of the Capital District.

Registration is required for those wishing to attend. Please RSVP by August 17 to or by calling (518) 447-7218. Parking is available on site.
