Collecting food items April 4-30
Albany County Cares about our Community and County Executive Daniel P. McCoy has announced a month-long effort in conjunction with The Islamic Center of the Capital District, the Albany County Interfaith Coalition, Crossgates Mall and The Happy Cappuccino at Crossgates to collect non-perishable food items to help stock the shelves at the Muslim Food Pantry. Over 65 families are currently being served by the food pantry and we know that number will continue to increase.
"The Muslim Food Pantry serves the entire community but we know that Albany County has a large number of refugee families and many of them speak other languages," said McCoy. "Being able to go to a food pantry where there are volunteers there who speak the same language and can assist in providing guidance about other service needs is a huge benefit."
Collection boxes for donations are at Albany County buildings at 112 State Street, 175 Green Street, 162 Washington Avenue and at The Happy Cappuccino on the first floor at Crossgates Mall near Lord & Taylor. The drive will run through April 30th and suggested items include: Canned Soups, Olive Oil or Cooking Oil, Sugar/Salt/Peppers, Spices, Cereal, Peanut Butter, Snack Bars/Dried Fruit/Nuts, Breads, Canned Food (Tuna/Salmon),Canned Vegetables, Rice, All Purpose/Chickpea Flour, Chicken/Vegetable Broth, Water/Coffee/Juice/Tea, Beans/Lentils, Pasta and Sauce.
Those who wish to make donations directly to the food pantry may make arrangements by calling (518) 708-9804.
