African American Soldiers on Historical Battle Grounds

2.22.2018 @ 12:00 PM | Cahill Room
Albany County Office Building, Lobby Level
112 State Street
Albany, 12207

Join Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy on Thursday, February 22 at noon in the Cahill room, 112 State Street for a discussion on the critical roles African American soldiers had and the 1st Rhode Island Regiment.

Albany County continues its Black History Month celebration with a final presentation led by historian and environmentalist Aaron Mair.

The discussion will be about the 1st Rhode Island Regiment and the Battle of Normanskill – fought by brave African American soldiers who had no connection to Albany County before their arrival here. The 1st Rhode Island Regiment is known as the first racially integrated military unit to fight during the Revolutionary War, and the Battle of Normanskill is the only Revolutionary War battle fought in Albany.

The national theme for Black History Month this year is "African Americans in Times of War."
